Disk Defragmentation

When you download/install items your hard drive stores them in the part of the disk that has the most space. If you install updates that data will be installed on a different part of the hard drive. Eventually you may delete/uninstall the item because you don't want it or need it any more. Unfortunately when this happens sometimes some of the items that complement that file are left behind making them fragmented files as their program has been deleted and they are not being used. You can think of them as dump files if you wish.

The problem with fragmented files is that they are useless as they are not being used. Also the hard drive is still handling them, making it work harder for nothing, this will build up with the more fragmented files there are. This will result in a slower performance for your computer.

Disk defrag is an already installed piece of software which you will find on any Windows operating system. This program finds the files which are fragmented and deletes them, freeing up space on your hard drive and enhancing your computer's speed and performance.

There are two ways in which you can do this. The fastest is shown below.

>Turn on your computer

>Press the start button.

>Click on the search bar and type 'disk defrag' (You will find a result which looks like the image below).

>click on disk defragmenter.

>Click on the drives you wish to defragment. (To choose multiple simply click on one and then press and hold the 'CTRL' button while you click on another).

>click on analyse. (This will most likely take a while, especially on the first time).

>Once analysis has finished click on defragment disks. (This will also most likely take a while).
